Fiver Challenge – week 3
This week, we were making posters to advertise our products, researching how much people would be willing to pay and making some or our products.
Fiver Challenge – week 2
This week, we looked at the resources we need for our product or service and how much these would cost from out £5 budget.
Sapphire Stars
Another brilliant week! Here are some special mentions
Sapphire gained another very deserving pride of Prince Edward. They represent the values brilliantly and always strive to do their best. Well done!
A trip to Creswell Crags
Today, Year 3 attended a trip to Creswell Crags. Here we ventured into a cave that was once inhabit by Neanderthals and hyenas in the Ice Age. We held a real life ice age flint tool and turned our lights off to experience how dark a cave can get!
We put of survival skills to test by trying to create a shelter and attempting to hunt a bison. I think we need to practise before we try and survive in the Ice age…
Finally, we explored the different kinds of rocks that Neanderthals would use. We categorised them into igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary and looked at what they may have been used for.
Designing a logo – Fiver Challenge
Today, we were introduced to the Fiver Challenge. This will be a fantastic opportunity to develop our personal, financial and business skills by designing a product or service and selling it to others.
We were given our Fiver today and asked to choose the product or service we will sell. With this in mind, we designed our logo! We kept in mind that it needed to be simple and fit the product we were selling.
Sapphire Stars!
Wow! What a fantastic way to finish the half term.
Here are a few special mentions!
Creating abstract sculptures
This half term we have been discovering abstract sculptures. We have practised skills needed to balance, cut, slot, fold and attach items together. We then designed our own sculpture and worked as a team to create it.
Global citizenship
Over the past two weeks, Sapphire Class have been looking at the Global Citizenship goals and focussed, in particular, on goal 5 (gender inequality). We read the book, ‘Football Star’ which led to fantastic discussions on who should be allowed to play football and making sports inclusive for all.
We then read about Romana, a girl with Cerebral Palsy from Myanmar that had to leave her country and move to Bangladesh due to war. We discovered all the ways that people in the refugee camp were working to make school accessible for her, ensuring she had the right to education.
We took the opportunity to act by writing a letter to our local MP, discussing the right all children have to education. We put forward solutions as to how our government could act theirselves and ensure this right was being withheld across the globe.
