We Sell Sea Shells On The Seashore…

This half term we have been learning about the famous palaeontologist, Mary Anning. Mary Anning is famous around the word for her amazing discoveries in the cliffs of Lyme Regis.

This week we have been selling our own ‘curiosities’. First we wrote some persuasive writing trying to convince someone to buy our fossils. We used rhetorical questions, repetition, and alliteration to persuade our customer, some of us even created a business name and a catchy slogan.

Then we performed our persuasive writing. We used a green screen to transport ourselves onto the sunny beach of Lyme Regis and imagined we were selling sea shells on the seashore.

Fossils!

As part of our rocks and soils topic we have been looking at how fossils are formed. Today, we learnt that fossils are formed over millions of years. Animals, plants and even footprints can be fossilised.

After learning how fossils are formed, we made our own fossils. First, we made an impression with a creature in some clay. Then, we placed the clay into the bottom of a plastic cup. Then an adult poured plaster over our moulds and we left them to set. Finally, we peeled away the clay to reveal our amazing fossils.
